Action Research Development

As I mentioned before, my future action research is to be performed and conducted at the Watauga County Library.  My friend and current employee and assistant in the youth and children services is giving a little help.  Owen was kind enough give me some the inside scoop on what the library is looking for.

It seems that they're biggest issue is space.  With that said, I know that I don't have any jurisdiction or possible pull in that area.  That takes money and grant writing and years of time, which I don't have.  They are looking for more space for the their youth services corner because it is causing a disruption for other patrons.  But there is only one quiet room in the entire library.  New computers are a must of course and a new scanner.

So... to get the kids' attention, outside of the library, Owen organizes and helps put out their children literary magazine.  He's been putting together in Microsoft Word, which is unbelievably tedious and, well, simply outdated for that type of production.  He's hoping for money for Adobe End Design, which allow him to do things more simply and quicker and with better effects.

Now, when I mentioned the website, he laughed.  The website is completely un-interactive and there were major difficulties getting the website going and getting what they wanted for it.  One big issue is that it's too layered and difficult to follow for younger and older groups.  Now they have a great blog spot inside the youth services tab, but there needs to be more interaction inside it.  Also, there using facebook to connect a lot of users and I get the feeling that they want to move away from that.  I don't know why though.

Now, I wonder if there might be a may to integrate a wiki of some sort or at least something with a bit more interaction.  I'm really not sure what I have to offer them, but I'll be going back next week to collaborate some ideas.
